We started ROUNDABOUT NIGHTS as a weekly Monday night of live literature upstairs at the Alexandra Hotel pub in Chatham in July 2014. We took a fortnightly pop-up version of Roundabout Nights at POP gallery (until that closed…) and are now we have moved to a much more stable home Poco Loco on Chatham Intra, in a monthly-ish slot.
The event showcases a rotating schedule of events; including the relaunch of 17Percent’s She Writes showcase of short plays by women; spoken word poetry and stories; ME4-rum – a workshop/lit-chat where you can bring your writing and work on it in a shared environment, think of it as a type’n’ gripe rather than a stich’n’bitch; and special guest programmers who will take over a night.
Roundabout Nights gives an opportunity for writers to showcase their work, get feedback and talk to other writers. If you don’t call yourself a writer you are also welcome too so come along and be part of the audience!
Roundabout Nights started on 28 July 2014 at the Alexandra Pub in Chatham, with Roundabout Sushi – a showcase of all the sorts of events featuring spoken word from Barry Fentiman-Hall, Sophie Williams, Dylan Oscar Rowe, Phil Kane, and short plays and extracts of plays from Sam Fentiman-Hall, Whoop-n-Wail and Deborah Klayman. See photos from the event.
She Writes relaunched at Roundabout Nights on 4 August, with short plays by Sarah Hehir, Sam Rapp, Maggie Drury, SJ Horan, SM Jenkin and Sam Fentiman-Hall. See photos.
On 11 August, we held our first ever ME4-rum, where writers had a chance to drop in anytime and talk to other writers, and the audience about writing and life in general!
We have also had some guest writers launching their books and previews of plays:
~ 17 November 2014: Fiona Sinclair launched: ‘Ladies who lunch’
~ 24 November 2014: She Writes: three4all theatre presented ‘Politic Man’ a new play by Alison Mead
~ 1 Dec 2014: guest writer Maria C. McCarthy read from her collection of short stories ‘As long as it takes’
~ 1 June 2015: playwright Sarah Hehir previewed an extract from her new play ‘Child Z’
